Dream Wish Do

Ibland blir inte saker alltid som jag tänkt mig och ibland gäller det att hoppa på nya tåg och se möjligheter ur andra svårigheter. Som nu!!! Har något stort på gång-och jättespännande! jag kommer att åka hem till Sverige redan nästa vecka för ett halvår eller så, för att sedan bli placerad i Kapstaden igen! berättar mer snart..

Hej hallå!

Söndagar är alltid mysiga här.

Latino kvällen igår var grym men jag hade kanske väntat mig ännu mer trång klubb och hetta, visst är det varmt som det är dansa som latinos haha men ni vet vad jag menar. Stället låg ovan Mexican på long street. Mycket colombiansk musik att döma från mina sydamerikanska kollegor och schysst liveband som spelade Juanes likande musik. Jag och Malin avslutade kvällen med käk på Food-in. Alltid god mat (liba/indi/africa style) och för storlek två pers till en billig peng!

När vi ändå pratar billigt så ska jag vara nördig och lägga ut en bild från shoppingrundan i Cavendish idag..

 

Först gick vi loss på Billabong shopen...sen blev det cotton on och tillslut en sportbutik! Alltså en klänning, stort långt kill-linne (som jag tänker använda till klänning), jeansshorts, handväska, fitness skor, hårband och solglasögon för ca 1300SEK. Tacksamt!

Saturday in Cape Town

Started the weekend with some red wine with Malin, to later go to town and see some friends at kloof street. Got back home on time to be able to surf this morning in Muizenberg. Tired I was, but Malin persuaded me to take the train at 9am. Thank you!

Most times in the Cape tonian summer the wind is south east, with no exception today. Fast waves and a bit messy in the water but still ok and for me, every minute I get in the water is good. I´m getting to know my beautiful board better (whom I´m also gonna name soon!). It´s a lady and today she got rather mad with me and bruised me with one of the fin..lol Elin behave. Mycket slarv idag resulterade i lite blåslagna knän likaså.

Soon we are heading to a salsa night at Iconic Lounge in long street, a suggestion from our south american colleagues.... latino night!

I´m back!

It´s about time that I start my blogging again and I got reminded much joy it brings and how much fun it is to write about travel and tourism, thanks to my friends blog the other day. Thank you Malin!

So what have I been up to lately?

As far as I´m concerned I wrote in the beginning of december. December was hectic, fun and some changes in the company structure. I went on my first Garden Route trip with a group of swedish people, and with another tour guide. It was beautiful and everything was executed smoothly. Christmas and new years went by, celebrating both african and international xmas (two days of fiesta, great food and great friends) and I did a little work over that time but also enjoyed Cape Town a lot. January kick started with lots of new energy in the office and on Jan 12th I left Cape Town for an educational trip with Africa Travel Co. A beautiful overland trip through the west coast of SA, Namibia, and through Botswana before reaching our final destination Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Final destination for myself and 4 more people, when the rest of the group continued their journey to east Africa. My best tent buddy Kath from Sidney (or Orange Kath!) was gonna go for a total 56 days- soo jelous. I Absolutely loved it, full camping experience. 

The trip hadn´t been that great if it wasn´t for the loving and caring people, from all over the world that I shared this with. All the highlights along the way, the spiders, the sweat, the truck, the close to death experience in Namibia desert, the damaged camera, mobile and watch haha, THE big 5, sunshine, water, wine and much more. I will write a full report on this later. The only negative was the "too much sitting down, too much food" lol, I´m struggeling now! but I´m back on track at the gym (today!) and I also bought myself a surfboard the other week- so yeah, soon better.

Coming back from the overland trip I felt like a new person, it was one of the best trips of my life. I cried heaps when leaving the group in Vic falls..I love Africa even more, the happy and open minded welcoming people, breathtaking nature and amazing animals, the relaxed atmosphere that lies over this place. There is not enough big words to describe this phenomena and part of the world!

About a week after my arrival in Cape Town (feb 9th) i executed another Garden Route trip, this time with an group of americans students. This trip was also successful and much fun. I bunge jumped! Even cooler than skydive! lord, unreal what we actually do, strap ourselves into a harness and fall from a 216m bridge!! butterflies everywhere.

My house in Obs has a great group of longterm people here now, two swedes and one swiss girl. My colleaugue and dear housemate since november last year, Rebecca just left CT for Canada. I´m very sad for that, and she´s replaced by a south african guy and his temporary visiting french girlfriend.

Summertime is great here, a lot of things to do, time in the ocean and culture to enjoy, fun people and sunshine! I get to walk around in flippies all the time...

I have so many things to tell and a lot of photos to post but I will hold myself, for the ones of you that are still here at this point reading - thanks!

Highlights last weekend: Music festival in Township Langa with raggae, hip hop and much more. Gentleman, a german raggae artist that spent a lot of time in Jamaica is really cool. Powerful when a white bloke get the african crowd to melt with a real rasta style and dialect! Jeremy Loops. wow. Listen to this talented musician on youtube. I fell in love. over and out.

Also surfing my own surfboard..love it. I´m spending more money then my budget allow, which sucks. I miss my family and friends in Sweden, a lot. It hurts.

Busy busy busy

As you can understand I obviously suck at this blogging at the moment. I´ve been so busy with work and as we don´t have internet in our new house yet, it´s not coming to me on regualar basis. Anyhow things have been hectic, getting better and better every day. The tour department have a lot of things planned and scheduled for the upcoming period (summer in South Africa).

Hej kära familj och vänner! Det har varit fullt upp som ni säkert förstått så jag har inte kommit in i något flow whatsoever med bloggandet. Arbetet har tagit upp all min tid och det har väl runnit över i bägaren kan jag säga! Rebecca är ute på en educational tour och overland trip nu i tre veckor i södra Afrika, så vi försökte så gott vi kunde få in massa rutiner innan hon åkte. Jag jobbar på att bygga upp relationer med våra samarbetspartners och jobbar med nya samarbeten, har en Garden Route Resa inbokad i december, en overland trip för mig i januari troligtvis och sen en surfresa som jag producerar i slutet på januari med ett surf företag på västkusten. Det har alltså varit lite research resor redan i de planerade områdena, har hunnit med att testa några av våra aktiviteter som vi erbjuder och på fredag så ska jag ta med några svenska studenter på Sky diving! 

I forgot to say as well, one of the tour companies that we work with had a new broschure launch the other week. Me, Rebecca, Moses and Warren attended and both Rebecca and me won beautiful prices... how about a luxury lodge weekend in Victoria Falls??!!  Saken är den jag har knappt reflekterat över det, haft så mycket att tänka på men priset är ju helt fantastiskt, värt flera tusen och nu kommer jag definitivt till Vic Falls!! som Foz du Iguazuuuuu- alltså ett massivt vattenfall!

Anyhow, the whole house situation is now done, I moved for the last and third time in a while I guess. The new house is in Obs, the same area as last year, smaller, lite mer personligt som jag önskar med färre folk. Fräscht och med en liten bakgård där vi kan ha braai. Badrummet är silly stort...med både bad och dusch.

Ok jag lovar att skriva mer snart, även om det är galet är jag jätteglad att vara här och ser fram emot att bygga upp all business

Back in Cape Town!

I might as well get use to write in english as most of my work will be in this language. Kommer svänga in med svenskan ibland såklart, vissa saker gör sig bara inte lika BRA på engelska J

Anyhow, me and Piia, a student from Karlstad University, took the bus, late (early)Monday night at 2.30. Slept okay although I was feeling a little sick and weird after hugging mom and dad goodbye in the middle of the night… a cold and a sore throat got me bad and painkiller was a fact for breakfast!

In Stockholm by 6.30 tuesday morning, heading for Arlanda by bus, arrived at the airport by 7.30 waaaaay above schedule and flight check in. Very rare, but this time I travelled with two bags (not a backpack for once!) and Emirates has one of the most generous luggage allowances in the world.. I even had above 30kg but they accepted it without a fee.

The service on the flight was fabulous.. many hours later we arrived in Dubai, I have to say this is the most luxuries airport I´ve ever seen, even with a waterfall inside. Check in- check out, organic lovely coffe shop, taxfree shopping and boarding at 3.30am Dubai time. Har nu vänt på dygnet för tredje gången i rad från nervositeten redan på söndag natt! Sleeping time, yeah! Then getting breakfast at 4am (?) and lunch at 8am (?) and arriving in Cape Town at 11.40 local time. Warren, manager of Southern Ambition (Moses is the founder) picked us up and dropped of Piia at her place for the night, she left early thursday morning to do an internship in an Ecovillage close to Port Elizabeth (Hogsback).

Arrived to my flat, it’ s called the Baxter Suites, in Rosebank. Ett stort lägenhetskomplex, egen stor gate och reception (har inte sett en kotte där dock) swimming pool on ground floor, our flat is on the 6th floor, view over Table Mountain. Pretty nice , very comfi and clean, only two minutes walking distance from work.  My roomie, is the cutest girl ever, Rebecca, a very nice canadian girl who I also work with at Southern Ambitions- Adventure Tours. She´s been doing an enormous job before I got here and now we are trying to update me on all the necessary things.  A lot of things to read, businesses to know and we are planning some trips and tours already so that I know what I will be selling and consulting about.

Det är mycket att sätta sig in i, men jag tar bit för bit. Har redan hunnit träffat en representant för ett stort reseföretag som vi säljer, och snart blir det fler. Det fanns idéer om ett surfpaket/samarbete innan jag kom och vi kommer att titta närmare på det snart, kul!!

Last week was very exciting, although I had a cold, but getting sorted in my room, seeing some friends, ex colleagues from last year och bara känner in stämningen. It feels great to be back, and I´m so looking forward to all this. Jättekul att träffa Tania och Janilla igen, från förra året, som numera bor tillsammans på Polo road, mitt gamla hood, dörren mittemot #home. Kul såklart att också träffa de andra från Southern Ambition ”gänget” gamla som nya som är en mixad grupp av folk från hela världen. 

Tania, volontärboss på Southern Ambition, tillsammans med Pastor John, arrangerade i lördags en township day i kåkstaden Phumlani. Gjorde ont i hjärtat att se hur en del bor och lever och så jag ville gråta. Sådana kontraster i denna stad. Massa av volontärer från flera organisationer deltog och bidrog med mat, leksaker och skoj till barnen. En bra dag, mycket glädje för barnen och lärorikt för oss. Samtidigt så hemskt att se och fundera över vilken framtid de kommer att ha, om de ens har möjlighet till att gå i skola? Om de ens har familj som tar hand om dem? Tania, är en sån eldsjäl, och brinner verkligen för barnens bästa, ett fantastiskt jobb hon gör.

Det var en förövrigt en stekhet sommardag, och vi målade färg i ansiktet, orutinerad som jag var, åkte iväg utan solkräm som jag inte hunnit köpt, brände mig såklart och har nu även vita streck inte bara på ryggen utan också på flera ställen i ansiktet efter målningen.. Bra där Elin. Stramt och rött face! Stupidwhitegirl.

Så fort jag blivit av med den här förkylningen så blir det till att surfa!! Å vad jag längtar ner i det KALLA vattnet!
