Going green to Cathrin!

It´s time for Norrland, or more specific Umeå, in county of Västerbotten. In Sweden people tend to think and speak of Norrland as one homogenous place, which is really not true. Norrland is an very diversified area that covers about 59 % of the total area of Sweden so it cannot all be the same...yes I´ve done research of mental maps, images and perceptions of the north. Anyhow I lost it now.. Yes to go to Norrland you don´t have to go far but to go to the northern parts of Norrland it takes some actual time on the road. In line with sustainable tourism and travel I chose to go by train (the fabulous famous, huge criticized, often late public transport). It´s more or less the same price train/flight (lite mer krångel och transit från Karlstad dock) but I have the time and I´m thinking green. For the first time in Sweden I´ve booked the sleeping wagon.Will tell you more afterwards. This is the farest up north I´ve been by the way.

To see more of Sweden is one of my goals for future travel. 2 years ago I headed for an awesome roadtrip, visted friends in Strömstad, Hunnebostrand, Uddevalla, Varberg and Halmstad (westcoast). When the weather is nice Sweden is amazing, such a beautiful country we have, other rainy days is not worth that much and everybody focuses on the weather here, and unfortunately we wait for 9 months to get it if we´re lucky. This summer has been amazing in Karlstad so far and the weather is suppose to be great in Umeå this weekend so we´re planning to be out on the river..

Travel by air causes a lot of damaged to nature, to minimize the emissions one can think of when travel by air- is to stay away longer at a destination. Travel together (all transports), much cheaper and more environmently friendly and fun. We will probably always travel by air because of our huge desires of seeing the world and some places are just not accessible other ways. But maybe in future there will be other forms of fuel to reduce the emissions and the ecological footprints.

Umeå, has before been named the capital of Norrland and is the European Capital of Culture 2014. ECOC, det var det inte alla som visste nej :). Ser fram emot denna långhelg i björkarnas stad och att få hänga med Cathrin igen!!!! Underbara människa. Får se hur mycket dialekt jag snappat upp när jag kommer hem! juuuuuuup.
